Our flagship product, aligned to the Science of Reading! A self-administered, automatically-scored assessment of oral reading that provides screening, diagnostic data, and progress monitoring.
- Measures oral reading fluency in English of students in Kindergarten through Grade 8.
- Provides diagnostic data on areas of strength and areas for improvement, and includes progress monitoring.

How it works:
Students begin with a brief, research-based screening to determine whether students have the foundational literacy skills needed to be successful on Moby Plus oral reading fluency assessments and practice activities. This “placer” takes approximately 15–18 minutes.
Grounded in the Science of Reading, the placer evaluates critical building blocks of literacy development, including letter knowledge and the alphabetic principle, phonological and phonemic awareness, phonics and sound-symbol correspondence, and word- and sentence-level decoding. The placer’s engaging, age-appropriate, technology-enhanced activity types provide a comprehensive view of students' readiness for the level of oral reading of connected text needed to be successful in Moby Plus.
Once students are placed appropriately, they read word lists, sentences, and short passages aloud, retell passages, and respond to comprehension questions using their voice. Moby Plus delivers personalized practice activities and weekly formative assessments aligned to each student's instructional needs, helping educators provide targeted support and accelerate reading growth.
This targeted approach ensures that students begin at the right level, enabling accurate assessment results, meaningful progress monitoring, and effective literacy instruction.
